Winter 10 Ensemble Auditions

Tenor trombone auditions for large ensembles (bands and orchestras) will take place the second day of classes, Tuesday, January 5, at 7:00 pm, in E250 HFAC. As usual, auditions will be blind (behind a screen). There will be a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside my office door (E465 HFAC); the sign-up sheet is simply to get a tally of players and for the proctor’s use in assigning players a number–the proctor will jumble the names before the audition. Additional info:

•Bass trombones will not have auditions and will remain in ensembles for Winter 10 as assigned Fall 09.

•Non-majors may elect to perform a prepared solo of their choice instead of the assigned excerpts below.

•Below is a list of the audition materials. Click on the name of the excerpt to download a pdf file. If you are unable to download the file, you can email me at will.kimball@byu.edu.

•Prepare only the bracketed portions. It is highly recommended that you listen to recordings of these pieces multiple times in order to determine tempo, style, context, etc. Although it does not include recordings of all the materials, a good starting point is tromboneexcerpts.org. Also, please take note of clefs. I look forward to hearing you all!
